Vienna must prepare a way out of contracts for the supply of Russian gas, which were concluded by the Austrian oil and gas concern OMV. This was stated by Austrian Energy Minister Leonore Gewessler, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“We must prepare a way out of the OMV agreements. Long-term contracts obliging us to take large amounts of natural gas have become another reason why the share of Russian gas in our country is so large,” she said at a press conference.

Gewessler added that her ministry would commission experts to analyze the economic consequences of a potential withdrawal from the contracts. The minister claims that Gazprom unilaterally reduced the volume of supplies in 2022. The politician recalled the agreement on gas transit through Ukraine, which expires after 2024.

“If one of the parties does not fulfill the conditions, then we will have the opportunity to act, then we need to not only analyze, but implement a way out of these contracts,” she noted.
