After the scandal over deaths and damages from the best-selling drug in Spain, Nolotil (metamizole), now there is a new controversy with the second most prescribed: Ibuprofen.

In our neighboring country, the French National Agency for Medicines Safety (ANSM), will prohibit from April 2, the advertising to promote the highest dose of ibuprofen (400 mg).

It cannot be said that it is useful in relieving pain and reducing fever. The measure is part of the efforts being made to promote the good use of ibuprofen“without calling into question the effectiveness and safety of these medications when used correctly.

Wow, just like in Spain when you go to a pharmacy without a prescription and they directly give you the 400 mg, and the 600 mg when you do have a prescription. In France, ibuprofen, 200 mg, must be taken as a first-line treatment. I mean, it is recommended the lowest dose.

Why do they get tougher in France? Well, because the ANSM has verified an increase in notifications of serious adverse reactions linked to the dose of ibuprofen. Which is it?: Gastro-digestive bleeding y kidney damage.

The prudent recommendations of the French Agency are to take ibuprofen during the shortest possible timeno more than three days in case of fever and five days in case of pain, starting with the 200 mg dose and respecting an interval of at least six hours between doses.

The dose is important and it was already known. A few years ago Some researchers did a study in which they compared the analgesic effectiveness of ibuprofen oral in three different doses for adult patients admitted to Emergencies with acute pain.

It was a randomized, double-blind trial that compared the analgesic efficacy of three doses of oral ibuprofen of 400, 600 and 800 mg. Look at the higher doses for what they now want in France. Well, what was discovered is that it has a similar analgesic efficacy for pain relief short-term in adults with acute pain.
