On Tuesday evening, a small error crept into the “Tagesschau” edition right at the beginning: the selection of images in a report was suspicious.

Every day at 8 p.m., Erste welcomes viewers to a new edition of the “Tagesschau”. Despite the experienced and well-oiled machine of the news studio, small errors can creep in here and there – which do not go unnoticed by some viewers. Same on Tuesday evening.

News anchor Thorsten Schröder welcomed the audience to the main edition that day and began with the topic of right-wing extremism in Germany. But some people might be suspicious. For the title “Right-wing extremism in Germany,” the first showed a picture of a group of people in the fully loaded back of a car.

This image should actually only be used later, when Thorsten Schröder speaks about the Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip under the title “Israel is apparently planning tent cities in southern Gaza.”

The error did not go unnoticed by users on platform X. And the public broadcaster’s news studio also noticed him. Because when the “Tagesschau” edition was subsequently uploaded to the ARD media library, all the pictures were in the right place. A photo of Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser was shown alongside the report on right-wing extremism in Germany.

It’s not the first mistake at the “Tagesschau” and it certainly won’t be the last. Judith Rakers, who recently stepped down as anchor of the news program after 19 years, also experienced a mishap in front of the camera. You can read here why she had to improvise live last year.
