The US official arrived in Quito to discuss issues of bilateral interest, including security, the fight against drug trafficking, migration and democracy.
The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, visits President Guillermo Lasso at the Carondelet Palace, this October 19. This is the first high-level official visit between both governments. In a brief protocol greeting, the President welcomed Blinken and stated that, now more than ever, Ecuador shares the same democratic and freedom values as the United States.
While Blinken sent greetings from President Joe Biden and highlighted the strong democratic voice of the Ecuadorian president, both within the country and in the region. He applauded the administration for the vaccination plan and the joint work it is doing with Washington to confront drug trafficking. Furthermore, the Secretary of State recalled that both governments together face regional challenges, including migratory waves. The bilateral meeting began around 2:45 p.m.
And on behalf of the Executive also participate Foreign Minister Mauricio Montalvo and Ministers SimÃ3n Cueva (Finance), Luis Hernandez (Defense), Viviana Maino (Telecommunications), Julio Prado (Production), Iván Correa (Public Administration) and Ambassador Ivonne Baki.
