114 migrants residing illegally in Bulgaria have been returned and have left Bulgaria. This is reported by the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior.
From there, they have improved the efficiency of the return of illegally staying citizens. Compared to the same period last year, when the returnees numbered 31 foreigners, the Directorate “Migration” reported an extraordinary growth of 267 percent. From January 1 to February 14 of this year, 158 illegally staying citizens were accommodated in the Directorate’s Specialized Homes for Temporary Accommodation to third countries.For the same period last year, they numbered 242 people.
The analysis shows that the significant growth achieved is due to the successful implementation of a pilot project of Bulgaria and the EC for the prevention of illegal arrivals and the strengthening of border management and migration management undertaken in the last months of 2023. Lower migration pressure in the country is also reported.
The “Migration” Directorate specifies that for the whole of last year /January 1 – December 31, 2023/ a total of 566 illegally residing citizens of third countries were returned – 221 of them were forcibly returned; 238 – under readmission agreements; 46 – with issued decisions for return with own funds, 35 – with the assistance of the International Organization for Migration, and 26 left our country voluntarily through an imposed return decision.
