The Peace Commissioner, Otty Patiño Hormaza, has issued an urgent call to the delegations of the National Government and the armed rebel groups to advance quickly and firmly in the territorialization of peace, in response to recent violent acts perpetrated by the ELN and the EMC-FARC.

Patiño expressed his concern about the declaration of armed strike by the Western War Front of the ELN and the acts of violence by the Central General Staff of the FARC (EMC-FARC) in the western region of the country. These events, according to the Commissioner, undermine confidence in the peacebuilding process and threaten the lives and rights of people in the affected territories.

Patiño emphasized that the ceasefire should not be interpreted as permission to commit crimes, emphasizing that the declaration of armed strike by the ELN and the acts of violence by the EMC-FARC constitute acts of disloyalty with the agreements reached in the peace talks. Such actions, she warned, put security and the hope of a peaceful resolution of the armed conflict at risk.

The Commissioner also denounced the armed attacks of the EMC-FARC in Cauca and Nariño, which have resulted in injuries and massive displacement of the population, as well as extortions and registrations in Jamundí, Valle del Cauca. These facts, he pointed out, threaten the fundamental rights and freedoms of the population and hinder the advancement of the Territorial Pact for Life and Peace.

Faced with this situation, Patiño called on the Public Force to act effectively and promptly in the prevention and neutralization of these violent acts. Likewise, he urged the delegations of the National Government and the armed rebel groups to commit to the territorialization of peace, in order to build a Social State of Law in the territories affected by violence and inequality.
