The magistrate of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Noel Orellana, affirmed today that the elections for municipal councils and deputies of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) will be held on March 3, as planned in the electoral calendar.

The opposition parties, ARENA, FMLN, Vamos and Nuestro Tiempo, have proposed that the TSE should annul the elections for deputies of the Legislative Assembly, and postpone those for municipal councils and Parlacen, but the electoral authority has ruled out those possibilities.

“We cannot postpone the date, both the political parties and the court have already made commitments,” said Orellana.

In addition, he noted that they are “working on preparing all the logistics for the March 3 elections. We have a team of technicians in the court, there will be exceptions, who have all the experience, good will, all the commitment to the court, and we hope to correct and not repeat situations that occurred in the February 4 elections.”

He recalled that on May 1, the new authorities of the 44 municipalities and the 60 deputies must take office for the period 2024-2027.
