The Pro Basketball League is in full planning and today the Council of Presidents will take place, where the number of teams that will participate in this next edition will be defined.
The second edition of the Pro Basketball League championship concluded with the championship of the Club Leones de Riobamba, it was learned that the board of directors of the Baquet Pro League is working on various fronts for the 2024 season. Among these efforts stands out the signing of the agreement to transfer audiovisual rights to the Spanish group Básquet Pass. “A group works on the issue of regulations, discipline code, protocols and more; The technical commission is focused on arbitration and so on,” Moya commented.
In the last edition, teams such as Barcelona (Guayaquil), Guerreros (Santo Domingo), CyC (Portoviejo), Leones (Riobamba), Piratas de los Lagos (Ibarra), Spartans (Quito), Jorge Guzmán (Loja), participated. Importadora Alvarado (Ambato), Orange Basketball (SangolquÃ) and Basket Pasaje (Pasaje). Each team had approximately 15 players, including two community players (from South America) and three foreigners (from the rest of the world). For the next season, it is planned to expand the number of teams to between 12 and 14, considering the requests of six new clubs that wish to join the competition.
As for the dates, it is estimated that the championship will start on May 31, 2024 and will conclude at the end of September, even with the possibility of extending a few days in October. Regarding the audience, Moya highlighted the success of the tournament in terms of spectators. “Last year we brought more than 213 thousand spectators to the stadiums, and this 2023 there were 280 thousand, which represents a growth of 29%. Furthermore, in the second edition we carried out 85 broadcasts of 123 matches, reaching 2 million people through open television and streaming platforms,” the president concluded. The expectation is that the third edition will continue to raise the standard of competitiveness and excitement for all basketball fans in Ecuador.
