The National Library of Ankara (Turkey) hosted an event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding representative of Azerbaijani cinema, people’s artist, laureate of the State Prizes of Azerbaijan and the USSR, holder of the Shohrat Order, prominent film director Rasim Ojagov, reports Day.Az.

The event was organized by the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, the Embassy of our country in Turkey, the Ministry of Culture, the Cinema Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Film Fund of Azerbaijan.

By the way, the shooting of several films by Rasim Ojagov took place in Turkey – these are the films “Həm ziyarət, həm ticarət…” (Oh Istanbul, Istanbul!), “Otel otağı” (Hotel Room) and “Təhminə” (Tahmina). Also, the famous Turkish actress Meral Konrat played the main role in the film “Takhmina,” beloved by a huge number of viewers. Therefore, it is not at all by chance that one of the events held as part of the anniversary of the Master of Azerbaijani cinema took place in Turkey.

A photo exhibition reflecting the life and work of the film director was launched at the Ankara National Library. Spectators looked at the exhibited photographs with interest; in some of them Rasim Odzhagov was captured behind the camera, in others he explained to the actors their task. Guests of the event, remembering the work of the film director, shared with each other their emotions from watching Rasim Odzhagov’s films. Some recalled “Birthday”, others said that their favorite work in the Master’s filmography is “Temple of Air”, others voiced quotes from the main character of the film “Oh Istanbul, Istanbul!”…

In his speech at the evening, the head of the department of libraries and publications of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, Taner Beyoglu, spoke about the multifaceted professional activities of the Master of Azerbaijani cinema, emphasizing that at one time it was a great honor for him to personally meet Rasim Ojagov.

The head of the department of the Cinema Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Rashad Gasimov, and other participants of the event spoke about the great contribution of Rasim Ojagov to Azerbaijani cinema.

It was noted that the director’s name is inscribed in golden letters in the history of our cinema. Guests of the event were provided with extensive information about Odzhagov’s camera and director’s activities.

Famous actor, People’s Artist Fakhraddin Manafov, who was present at the event, noted that in all the films that Rasim Odzhagov shot, the director pursued the goal of showing human relationships.

“His heroes, who found themselves in extreme situations, be they men or women, tried to get out of these trials while maintaining human qualities. And Rasim Odzhagov himself was in this…” he said.

Turkish actress Meral Konrat emphasized that she is extremely excited that the film “Tahmina” will be shown as part of the event.

“I feel like I’m going to watch it for the first time. Today Rasim Odzhagov brought us all together again…” she added.

His daughter Kamalya Odzhagova spoke on behalf of the film director’s family, who expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants of the event for the attention and memory given to the work and legacy of Rasim Odzhagova.

As part of the event, a short film about the People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Rasim Ojagov was shown.

In conclusion, the film “Takhmina” was shown.

Ojagov, son of Rasim Mirgasim born in Sheki on November 22, 1933.

In 1951-1956 he studied at the camera department of VGIK. In 1965 he graduated from the Azerbaijan Theater Institute.

Laureate of the State Prize of Azerbaijan (film “Birthday”), laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (film “Interrogation”).

As a cameraman, Rasim Odzhagov worked on such films as “Her Big Heart”, “True Friend”, “Our Street”, “I Will Dance”, “Why Are You Silent?”, “In This Southern City” and others.

The first film shot by Rasim Ojagov as a director was the film “The Avenger from Ganjabasar”.

Rasim Odzhagov is the director of films that make up unforgettable pages in the chronicle of national cinema. Among them are “The Sound of the Pipe”, “Birthday”, “Interrogation”, “Before a Closed Door”, “Park”, “Another Life”, “Temple of Air”, “Takhmina”, “Seven Days After the Murder”, “O , Istanbul!”, “Hotel room”.

Rasim Odzhagov passed away on July 11, 2006.
