The Minister of Defense of Colombia, Guillermo Botero, pointed out that the “Candado” operation has not ended, in which more than 3,000 soldiers participate to capture Walter Patricio Arizala, alias “Guacho.”

To the media in that country, Botero explained that the soldier who reported on the injuries of the leader of the self-proclaimed Oliver Sinisterra Front was sanctioned. “A soldier came forward with a recording that they sent to the media and it should never have been sent,” said Botero, who argued that due to this action “a reserved fact became public and deserved a sanction.”

However, he reiterated that the military operation is in full development. On September 15, the president of Colombia, Iván Duque, reported that “Guacho” was injured. He was allegedly shot in the back by a sniper. In that operation, the first corporal of the Colombian Navy, Luis Alfredo Oquendo, died. “Guacho” is wanted in Ecuador and Colombia for the murder of the journalistic team of the newspaper El Comercio, as well as Katty Velasco and Óscar Villacís, in addition to several attacks in the Mataje area.
