Spyros Bibilas: “I was crying secretly” – His personal confession that caused emotion in the Parliament

by time news

Spyros Bibilas made an iconic statement – which is still being discussed today, as he won impressions and admiration – from the floor of the Parliament last night, just before the passing of the bill on the marriage of same-sex couples and procreation.

During his deposition, the MP of Plefsis Eleftherias, Spyros Bibilas, made a public personal confession regarding his own sexuality and did not hide his emotion.

“From a very young age I understood that I was different from other people in something. How did I figure it out? When in museums, where I adored ancient Greece since I was a child, I used to cling to the male statues and not the female ones. So I was drawn to something by nature,” the MP initially said.

“I was reading Cavafy and Lapathiotis and identifying with these great poets of ours. I was secretly crying because I had to hide something, I was ashamed of it, that’s how I felt then, without being able to tell even my parents. I became an introverted, melancholic child who wrote poems.

“However, I grew up and made strong relationships, bonds, great companions, who today are my precious family together with my brothers and I say this with great emotion.

“These hidden tears lead me today, at the age of 68, to fight so that no other children will cry in the future. So that they are happy, so that they are not afraid to say what they are, what attracts them, who they want to live with. Finally, we are all human” said Spyros Bibilas and received the governmental and cross-party applause.

“I’m sorry, because I’m also emotional now” Spyros Bibilas added emotionally and took a short break to drink some water.

Afterwards, the Freedom of Navigation MP said: “Today the solution to an equality issue that has been troubling many people for years is taking shape” and added that no one can have power over another person’s body and that he wants to dispose of it . Homosexual people are in no way deprived of the possibility and ability to raise children, said the expert buyer of Freedom of Navigation and denounced the divisive and racist speech that was heard in the Parliament in the past days, at the expense of a portion of different people.

Spyros Bibila’s speech sparked a debate on the morning shows with most journalists applauding him for his stance, while some guests – who opposed the same-sex couple bill from the start – verbally attacked him.

“I’m honestly so proud to have you as my friend. It was the most humane, moving speech. There was a person from my family who is against the bill and called me to tell me that I should be proud that you are my friend,” said Katerina Kainourgiou, who invited him to his show.
