Next week we will be visiting Nairobi, Kenya to participate in discussions on combating climate change.

As Day.Az reported on Saturday with reference to Trend, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev said this today during a panel discussion at the Security Conference in Munich.

“For the COP29 Presidency, the Munich Security Conference provides an excellent opportunity to hear different ideas and priorities regarding climate change. Last week we visited the UAE and next week we will be in Nairobi for more discussions. At the same time, we are currently in process of listening to different initiatives and ideas from all countries. All this will enable us to make the right decisions in connection with COP29,” he said.

The minister noted that COP29, scheduled for November 2024 in Baku, will focus on transparency and inclusiveness.

“We would like to invite everyone to participate in this great event. We believe that valuable conclusions can be drawn from the discussions. This provides an excellent opportunity to extend the significant consensus reached in Dubai to Baku and ultimately to Brazil. Cooperation between these three countries provides a promising chance to advance the climate agenda,” Babaev added.

The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was officially made on December 11, 2023 in Dubai.

On January 4, 2024, Mukhtar Babayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, was appointed President of COP29.
