The fight against disinformation and countering Russian propaganda was discussed by the Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov and the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Shimonite in Munich. This was announced by the Council of Ministers on its official Facebook page. The topic is particularly sensitive in both countries in the context of the upcoming European Parliament elections and the ongoing war in Ukraine, the government information service said.

If Putin is not stopped in Ukraine, all countries in Eastern Europe are at risk, the two Prime Ministers warned. “Europe and the European countries must work to improve their security,” said Academician Denkov and pointed to Bulgaria’s efforts to modernize the army and improve defense. The Prime Minister also emphasized the strategic importance of the South-North vertical connectivity, which Greece, Bulgaria and Romania are working on, including for military mobility.

The Lithuanian Prime Minister expressed special support for Bulgaria’s accession to the Eurozone. Ingrida Šimonite shared the experience of adopting the euro in Lithuania when she was finance minister.

Within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov also spoke with the Foreign Minister of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg. The prime minister and the first diplomat of Vienna discussed the need to renew the talks between Bulgaria, Romania and Austria in order to overcome all the obstacles to the final membership of the Schengen area. Nikolay Denkov also spoke with the assistant secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, Robert Silvers.

As part of their participation in the forum, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Deputy Prime Minister Maria Gabriel also held a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
