/ Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Qatar is postponing some shipments to Europe, due to the conflict in the Red Sea that leads to increased transportation times.

The report quoted traders familiar with the matter as saying that Qatar had informed some European buyers of the delay and rescheduling of shipments, and that Qatar was adjusting and rearranging global supplies to meet contractual obligations, shifting deliveries from other places and exchanging shipments available near Europe.

The report indicated, according to ship tracking data compiled by Bloomberg, that Qatar had diverted at least six shipments bound for Europe to the Cape of Good Hope route since January 15, instead of the shorter route via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, pointing out that Qatar had not reduced its exports. Although some shipments take longer to reach their destinations.

Military attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea caused a decrease in the volumes of goods transported through it, as a result of which global trade declined by 1.3% last December, on a monthly basis.

International shipping companies Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are sending their ships on longer and more expensive routes around the Cape of Good Hope, to avoid attacks targeting ships in the Red Sea.
