Activists of the “Vazrazhdane” party blocked the entrance to the port of Burgas – West for about two hours, because of the decision of the Constitutional Court, which confirmed the decision of the National Assembly not to hold a referendum on preserving the Bulgarian lev, BNR reports.

Nearly 50 people with placards and flags demanded that their voices be heard. Alexander Koychev, Boris Aladzhov and Mariyan Ivanov from “Vazrazhdane” explained:

“We are protesting against the outrages of the Constitutional Court, which trampled on the will of 604,000 Bulgarian citizens who want to be asked if and when we should enter the Eurozone,” said Alexander Koichev.

“What the Constitutional Court and the National Assembly did showed that the state institutions that are under their control in practice do not represent the Bulgarian citizens, but only represent themselves. We will not obey any such state institution that is controlled from foreign embassies or foreign agents,” Boris Aladzov said.

“The institutions that were chosen to protect the democratic rights of Bulgarian citizens, namely the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court, are actually the institutions that trample on democracy and do not allow the Bulgarian citizen to express his opinion in a legally organized and held referendum,” said Mariyan Ivanov .

Because of the protest at the entrance to the port of Burgas – west, a kilometer-long queue of trucks and cars was formed.

Protests by “Vazrazhdane” activists will continue in the coming days in different parts of the country, the protesters added.
