151 years of the immortality of Vasil Levski were celebrated with a military ritual and city-wide pilgrimage in Veliko Tarnovo.

Children and adults brought flowers and bowed in front of the only monument in the country showing Vasil Levski on the gallows.
“Through her deeds, the Deacon still today sets a bright example of sincere patriotism and following only the Bulgarian national interests. That is why Vasil Levski will always be at the highest place in our national pantheon!” – Mayor Daniel Panov wrote on Facebook.

In front of Levski’s monument, cadets from the National Military University presented a literary composition, and the chief, Brigadier General Ivan Malamov, made a speech.

“Today we pay tribute to Vasil Levski, this is a man, one of us, and at the same time so different from us, because he dedicated his life, his work and his dream to have Bulgaria, to have us here today.

I am happy that there are days when we remember the self-sacrifice of such great Bulgarians who dedicated their lives to something more than themselves. Today we stand in front of his monument, we bow our heads and at least one day we remember that there is something more valuable than ourselves and that is our homeland.

Levski bequeathed us his ideal of a pure and holy republic.
Can we say that we have achieved it, I don’t think so,” said Brig. Gen. Malamov.

Father Slavcho offered a funeral prayer for the Apostle.
