Reggaeton star Karol G won the first Grammy of her career in Los Angeles this Sunday and celebrated the reversal of trends in the industry thanks to the success of Latin music.
“When I was a girl, I tried to learn all that music in English,†the Colombian artist told the media after receiving her gramophone for her sixth album “MAÃ’ANA SERÍ BONITO.†.
“Now we have all these people around the world trying to learn our music in Spanish.”
Karol G triumphed in the Best Urban Music Album category at the 66th edition of the Grammys, in which no Latin artist was nominated in the general categories.
Asked about this, the singer who just debuted as an actress in the Netflix miniseries “Griselda” said that the lack of nominations does not measure the triumph of Latinos.
“Latinos are doing great work and it would be great to see our names in the main categories,” said the 32-year-old artist.
«[Pero los premios] They don’t really tell if you are successful or not. If it happens it’s great and I’ll love it. If not, we will receive our recognition in another way.
