The Romanian government will continue to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminica Odobescu said today upon her arrival to participate in the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Agerpress reported.

“Regarding the crisis in the Middle East, I will express our concern about the desperate humanitarian situation in Gaza. Civilians must be protected in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Romanian government will continue to provide humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, and humanitarian aid should be allowed there,” Luminica Odobescu told journalists ahead of the meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Romania’s top diplomat also called for the immediate release of all hostages, referring to the Israelis, who have been under the control of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas since October 7, 2023, when Islamist militants attacked southern Israel and sparked the war in the Gaza Strip.

Odobescu said work must continue to restart the Middle East peace process based on the two-state solution.

The Romanian foreign minister also welcomed the start of the European Union operation in the Red Sea against the Houthi rebels, BTA wrote.
