It may seem incredible but it is true: the singer Ricardo Arjona has decided to put his career on indefinite pause due to his current state of health.
The Guatemalan artist closed his ‘Blanco y Negro’ tour this weekend at the Bicentenario Stadium in La Florida, in Chile, and after singing his legendary song ‘Historia de Taxi’, he announced his retirement from the stage after s almost four decades of career.
Arjona performed two concerts in the South American country and after the last one he revealed the difficult decision through a statement published on his Instagram account.
“A farewell in Santiago. Thank you for making the impossible so easy,†the artist wrote in his publication, which was accompanied by several images with a text where he explains the reasons for his separation from the stage.
“I thought I wasn’t up to taking a step yesterday afternoon and I ended up doing a marathon on the longest improvised catwalk of my life. Almost like my career was from the beginning,†the singer began by saying about his recent health problems that had made him reschedule a concert in Chile last September.
Regarding the reasons for his retirement, he commented: “To the doctors who put me on my feet so I could finish this trip by postponing an imminent surgery, thank you very much. I have had 6 spinal infiltrations with me in the last two months to be able to remain standing during this farewell.â€
After the 159 concerts he performed as part of his tour, the artist decided to say goodbye to “so many stories and affections”, although he assured that he will have to “disappear to invent a reason that is bigger than this.” If I don’t find it, I prefer not to come back.”
In his text, the author of “Lady of the Four Decades†also stated that “life and people have been immensely generous with this Guatemalan from the neighborhood, a public school teacher, who, by touching the guitar, adding a few words and trying a melody, he achieved a miracle that he never suspected.
The artist ended by saying: “My name is Ricardo, those who love me call me DRY, and happier and fuller than ever, although with an ailment that will soon be history, I say goodbye and thank you, with all my heart.” .
Leaving those words and the taste of his last concerts, Arjona puts his career on pause, indefinitely. However, he keeps his fans the promise of a return, apparently when his illness allows it.
