The eldest son of the mayor of Botevgrad Ivan Gavalyugov – Alexander, caused a real sensation during the NBA All-Star Game. The 18-year-old talent was one of only 40 prospects his age from around the world who had the opportunity to train one-on-one with former and current players as well as coaches from the league, as well as play matches against each other in a tournament format on the eve of the traditional show that takes place every year.
The Bulgarian team reached the final in the competition. Gavalyugov, who is considered one of our greatest talents in basketball, won the competition for threes. The competition is held in several rounds. After the first leg of the competition, the guard, who trains in Australia at an NBA campus, made 18 of 25 attempts.
In the final stage of the competition, the young talent scored only 4 times out of 10 possible. After that, however, Gavalyugov showed everyone what an amazing arm he has and scored 15 baskets one after the other. Thus, with a total of 19 triples, he triumphed in the race. The second in the ranking remained far behind – 16 baskets.
Gavalyugov’s big dream is to become part of the NBA. In Australia, where he studies and trains, the former guard of “Balkan” (Botevgrad) reaps successes one after another. From the academy, of which the son of the mayor of Botevgrad is a part, a bunch of players, part of the alien league, have graduated – Dante Exum, Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, one of the current leaders of the strong team of “Oklahoma” Josh Giddy and others. Years ago, Gavalyugov caught the eye of the colossus “Real” (M). Our basketball talent is no stranger to sports. His grandfather is the legend Ventsi Slavov, and his mother is Stefka Slavova – a former national player. His father also played basketball before entering politics.
