Venezuela cut short Ecuador’s dream of reaching the Olympic Games. The vinotinto defeated Brazil 3-1 and qualified for the final quadrangular, where only two teams will be able to access Paris 2024.

In eleven pre-Olympic championships, Ecuador has played 49 games, winning only 11, drawing 12 and losing 26. It scored 53 goals and conceded 85, for a goal difference of minus 50.

History has not been favorable for national football in this competition. Ecuador debuted in the 1964 edition, on the way to the Tokyo Olympic Games that year, and since then, along with Bolivia, they are the only teams that have not qualified for the Olympic competition.

Those led by Miguel Bravo came to this tournament with the hope of reversing history. La Tri fell into group A, with Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia and Colombia.

In the first match, Ecuador beat Colombia by a score of 3-0, with Yaimar Medina as a figure, who scored a double in this match, being the revelation of La Tri in this tournament. In their second match they faced Venezuela and tied 1-1.

They then beat Bolivia 2-0 and in their last match they lost against Brazil 2-1. The tricolor team added seven points in four games played, scoring seven goals and conceding three. It obtained an effectiveness of 58.33%.
