Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has again come up with a contradictory statement against Azerbaijan.

Pashinyan made such a quote at a meeting with the Armenian community in Munich on February 18.

“Since the international community did not support Armenia’s efforts to become independent with the realization of the right to self-determination of Karabakh, we were conducting this conflict not only against Azerbaijan, but against the international community. However, this was foolish.”

Pashinyan’s territorial claims to Azerbaijan

It is known that the leadership of Armenia, guided by the Alma-Ata declaration, declared that it recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. But Pashinyan’s comments in Munich show that official Yerevan recognized the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan as a result of pressure.

For example, the prime minister says that they gave up their claims on Karabakh because they could not get support from the international community. It means that if international support was given to official Yerevan, Pashinyan would still continue to claim the territories of Azerbaijan. This idea indirectly indicates that the territorial claims to Azerbaijan are still ongoing. It can be assumed that without Baku’s diplomatic and military advantage, Iravan is ready to carry out the policy of Sargsyan and Kocharyan.

The way out of Yerevan

In fact, official Baku gave Yerevan great chances to prove its sincerity in the peace process.

The biggest chance is to implement a constitutional amendment. If the Pashinyan government will appreciate this chance, then we can believe in Yerevan’s sincerity regarding the peace process. Because if there is no constitutional change, Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan will be reflected in official documents. For example, the Armenian constitution defines its goals with the country’s Declaration of Independence. In the Declaration of Independence, Azerbaijan and Turkey have open territorial claims.

The provisions of the Declaration of Independence are at the root of Pashinyan’s views in Munich.
