One of the key topics at COP29 will be financing.
As Day.Az reports on Tuesday with reference to Trend, this was stated by the chief negotiator for COP29 from Azerbaijan, Yalchin Rafiyev, during a round table dedicated to the 28th and 29th sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28 and COP29).
“COP28 was an important milestone thanks to the UAE consensus. Azerbaijan is ideally placed to facilitate in-depth discussions to achieve tangible progress in climate negotiations. Only through an inclusive COP will we be able to forge the right path forward. One of our key themes at COP29 will be financing. Critical “Mobilizing funds for mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage will be critical to our efforts. This will require the joint efforts of countries, international organizations and the private sector,” he said.
Rafiyev noted that as part of its chairmanship at COP29, Azerbaijan is looking forward to cooperation with the International Energy Agency (IEA).
“To achieve our goals, only inclusivity can keep us on track. Our core guiding principles for our cooperation include working together with Brazil as Chair of the next Conference of the Parties to ensure a climate-ready, fair and sustainable future. Under our “We look forward to working closely with the IEA as Chairman of COP29. At COP29, the IEA will continue to play a vital role in the process, monitoring the implementation of our commitments and supporting parties with vital research and policy,” he added.
It should be noted that the decision to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan was officially announced in Dubai on December 11, 2023. Azerbaijan will host the event in November this year.
