The World Association of Athletics is considering introducing a new format for measuring the long jump, the BBC reported.

The idea of this change would be to eliminate the traditional way of jumping, in which the athlete must jump before the marked line, and if he crosses it, it would be a foul.

The new format would measure from where the athlete’s front foot takes off to where it lands in the so-called trap – the sandpit without having a precise bar to jump from.

In this way, all controversial foul calls would be removed and thus the competition could become even more interesting.

Work is currently underway to develop a system that would instantly measure how many meters the competitors have jumped, without the usual wait of around 20 seconds for the result to appear on the scoreboard.

The director of the world athletics told the media that they will not introduce this new format until they have developed it to perfection next year.

The next world championship in athletics will be held in 2025 in Tokyo.
