New Delhi: The Railways cricket team achieved a historic win in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season as they posted the highest run chase in the history of the tournament against Tripura in their last league match at the MBB Stadium in Agartala on Monday. Tripura team was restricted to only 149 runs in its first innings, in response to which Railways could only score 105 runs. In this way Tripura had a lead of 44 runs. However, he scored 333 runs in the second innings and set a challenging target of 378 runs for Railways. In reply, despite a poor start, Railways achieved the target by losing five wickets with the help of centuries from Pratham Singh (169) and Mohammad Saif (106). This is the biggest run chase in the history of Ranji Trophy.
Chasing the target, Railways suffered an early setback and three wickets fell for just 31 runs, but openers Pratham Singh and Mohammad Saif turned the game around by making a lively partnership of 175 runs for the fourth wicket. Pratham remained unbeaten on 169 runs, while captain Upendra Yadav remained unbeaten on 27 runs and took Railways to the target in 103 overs.

This incredible performance by Railways broke the previous record of Saurashtra, which had chased the target of 372 runs in the 2019-20 season. Assam’s chase of 370 against Services in the 2008–09 season is third on the list. After seven rounds, Railways would finish in Elite Group C with 24 points, but unfortunately, they would miss out on a place in the knockouts.
Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have already crossed the required points in their respective last matches. Tamil Nadu is currently on top with 29 points from seven matches. Although Tripura lost, it was their best performance so far in the Elite Group Ranji Trophy season, giving them 17 points from their 200th match in the tournament.
