I conducted an investigation at the Ministry of Justice regarding the claim that Bojanov was some kind of protected witness. “The Ministry of Justice is responsible for legislation and for the protection of the judiciary. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Justice does not have operational and investigative functions. My role is to insist on objectivity, on a comprehensive investigation. We will participate in the work of the Parliamentary Commission that has been established, to investigate the Notary’s case,” said the Minister of Justice.
He commented on the Bojanov and the 8 dwarfs cases as follows:
“These cases are a grave diagnosis. The problem is that we have been with this grave diagnosis for a very long time. The key now is to focus on effective investigations, prosecutions and convictions. There is a difference of opinion about how far the tentacles of these networks of influence reach “, specified Slavov.
According to him, the Parliamentary Commission, which will investigate the case surrounding the Notary, has broad powers.
“The commission must take very seriously the collection of evidence, the hearing of the institutions that are related to the case”.
Atanas Slavov explained that in order to have such a serious scheme around Bojanov, which developed around 20 years under different administrations, it can hardly be done without political protection.
“We need to move from a change in laws and procedures to convictions. When we already have convictions for corruption at the highest levels of power, for corruption in the judicial system, this is the real proof that the institutions are working”, emphasized Slavov.
