Colombian football once again has a match with refereeing and VAR decisions discussed. This time it happened at the Polideportivo Sur, in Envigado’s 1-1 draw with América de Cali on date 7 of the BetPlay I-2024 League.
Both teams did their best for the show, although the scarlet was superior in the course of the game; but the referee Ferney Trujillo, and the VAR assistants, once again left doubts, suspicions and criticism for their interventions.
América was not given a penalty in the first half; However, they were the winner at halftime thanks to a goal from Harold Rivera, in the 25th minute, after a delivery to the area by Daniel Bocanegra and a header from Yojan Garcés, for another header by Rivera and the score was 0-1.
In the second half, América controlled the match and Envigado did not deserve the tie. However, in added time, the VAR gave a penalty in a subtle play, one of those that always happens, but this time it was punished.
Thus, Bayron Garcés kicked at 90+3′ and changed the penalty for Envigado’s 1-1 goal. A lot of controversy, and a tie between both teams.
América has already completed three games without winning in the League, something that worries coach César Farías.
