“We have a really important and valuable game ahead of us tomorrow.”
As reported by İdman.biz, Qarabag head coach Gurban Gurbanov stated this at a press conference held before the return match with Braga (Portugal) in the UEFA Europa League playoff round.
An experienced specialist said that he did not want to talk too much about it:
“You don’t need to talk too much about your opponent. In Portugal I mentioned that the bill should not deceive us. I believe that in Baku my players will play more willingly and correctly. They will also show a great game. We have until tomorrow. We want to end the game on a good note. We will do our best and try to take advantage of this opportunity.”

– Everyone in Braga says that they will come to Baku only for the sake of victory. How can this affect the team psychologically?
– This is expected. Because it’s a good club. They had many chances to reach the next stage. But I don’t think it will affect my players psychologically. We are familiar with the power of Braga. We knew how they played before the match. In a conversation with the team after the game, we noted that in the match in Baku we will have to play quickly, carefully and well. They are very fast. This is a team that has been playing this intense game for many years. Therefore, we are very well prepared for the return game.

– If you look at today’s results, it might be worth thinking about this. But every victory won in Europe today should be considered a great success in Azerbaijani football. Because we need such successes to become more stable. And in the playoffs, victories are very important for the confidence of players and fans. It also brings everyone together. For me, it’s more important to love football so much and to get the fans excited about such games. Even if we do this, we may remain where we are. We need to reach this level in every game. Such victories make us more motivated and confident. Interest in football is also growing not only among fans, but also among government agencies. I always wanted big clubs to come to Azerbaijan. We can’t stop there. We won the first match. Even if we lose tomorrow, this is a good result. Because we managed to win the away match.
– At the beginning of the season, did you predict that you would go this far?
– We always set a goal for ourselves. We want to be better every year. It all starts with our internal championship. We had a great desire to reach this stage, but there was no requirement. Our first goal was to at least reach the group stage of the Europa League. Luckily we did it. We performed well. Everything continued according to plan. Even today I believe in my players, they make a great contribution to our progress. And tomorrow my team will have its say on the field. I believe and trust them. The most important thing is that we approach the game the right way. I believe we have the power to make things better.
