The University of Glasgow Azerbaijan Alumni Association (UGAAA) held the Burns Night event at the Shirvanshah Hotel, dedicated to the memory of the great Scottish poet Robert Burns, Day.Az reports.

At the opening, UGAAA President Farid Nasirli noted that the organization was created on November 18, 2023 with the support of the University of Glasgow. UGAAA proudly serves as the university’s renowned global alumni association. Its main objective is to develop a strong sense of community among graduates of the University of Glasgow and Azerbaijani graduates associated with British institutions. Additionally, the association strives to build a strong network among its alumni by fostering meaningful connections during events.

Information was provided on the history and culture of the University of Glasgow and the significance of Burns Night was discussed. The evening continued with the reading of poems by Robert Burns and the works of Mirza Shafi Vazekh, an outstanding Azerbaijani poet who lived in the 18th and 19th centuries. Their poems were read by writer and poetess Ulviya Akhundova, poetess and writer, laureate of the international prize Leili Salaeva.

Guests, with the participation of a representative from the British Embassy, ​​UK alumni and representatives of a number of organizations, were able to network, enjoy a buffet dinner and learn about Scottish culture together.
