The Minister of Territorial Cohesion, PS candidate for Coimbra, participated in a debate with the various parties with parliamentary seats. After statements by Chega’s representative, Ana Abrunhosa expressed her unavailability to continue in the session.

Ana Abrunhosa, head of the PS list for Coimbra, abandoned the debate held this Monday at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, accusing Chega’s candidate, António Pinto Pereira, of xenophobic statements.

According to “Diário de Coimbra”, the Chega por Coimbra candidate, within the scope of a round table that was intended to clarify the parties’ proposals for the legislative elections, made several mentions of the immigrant population in Portugal and designated women as “ weakest layers of society”.

After these considerations, the Minister of Territorial Cohesion stood up and, to applause, apologized to everyone present and left. “I have immense respect for you but I refuse to participate in xenophobic speeches.
