“My weight problems prevented me from continuing my career.”
İdman.biz reports that former judoka of the Azerbaijani national team Rustam Orujov stated this on the air of the “İdman Bizdə” program.
The athlete, who retired last year, admitted that he misses judo:
“I miss the tatami, going on the podium, even losing weight. I still haven’t forgotten the atmosphere that was during the fights. I think I could continue. At 81 kg I would have reduced my weight again to 73 kg and received “I wish I had a license here. But I felt that my age was not suitable and I would not be able to compete at the Olympic Games. Therefore, I gave way to the youth.”
Orujev also recalled the most disappointing moment in his career: “5th place at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics is my biggest disappointment. I raced for the bronze medal. When I started fighting, I said that I would win and finish my career with a medal. But everything turned out unsuccessfully. I was very tired. He became infected with coronavirus 3 months before the Games. I couldn’t fully recover. And this had its impact. I was out of breath in every fight, but I fought to the end. I also had good fights. If not for this, perhaps everything would have been different.”
It should be noted that Rustam Orujov won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, held in Brazil.
