The British financier Lord Jacob Rothschild has died, aged 87. The family announced this in a press release on Monday.
Rothschild started his career in the family bank NM Rotschild & Sons before leaving in 1980 to found his own companies.
Since then, he has held several leading positions in the financial world, and was, among other things, chairman of the board of the investment giant RIT Capital Partners from 1988 to 2019.
This is one of the largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.
He also held several important positions in art and philanthropy, including as chairman of the British National Gallery between 1985 and 1991, according to The Guardian.
According to The Sunday Times’ rich list, the Rothschild family has an estimated fortune of around 825 million pounds, which corresponds to approximately 11 billion Norwegian kroner.
