This year, Bulgaria’s national holiday, the Third of March, will be honored with the lighting of iconic sites on the West Coast of the United States in the colors of the Bulgarian tricolor. The initiative of the Consulate General in Los Angeles began in 2022 with the lighting of the City Hall in Los Angeles, California, and for the third consecutive year will gather the Bulgarian community in the park space in front of the iconic building with flags and music to celebrate the holiday. The team of the General Consulate, the children and the teachers from the Bulgarian school “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” Los Angeles and dancers from the folklore group XoroTroptzi will await our compatriots for the lighting of the lights at 6:30 p.m. local time.

Each year, the initiative expands to new cities and states along the West Coast, with which the Consulate General aims both to delight more and more compatriots in the United States on the holiday, and to highlight the strong bonds of friendship, partnership and cooperation that bind the peoples of the two allied countries.

For the first time this year, the Morrison Bridge in Portland, Oregon, which is a main thoroughfare for the city center, will be illuminated, for whose assistance we thank Yordan Ilchev and Bistra Otashliyska.

For the second year in a row, the municipal building in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as the Ferris wheel in the city of Seattle, Washington, will be illuminated, where the initiative was joined by the Bulgarian Cultural and Heritage Center of Seattle

We expect other American cities to join the initiative of the Consulate General to celebrate Bulgaria’s national holiday.
