Several citizens have visited the offices of the Internal Revenue Service (SRI) for five months to ask why they do not cancel the VAT refund process for older adults.

The lack of cancellation of the VAT refund by the SRI complicates the economic situation of several older adults. They are five months late.

That is the case of Anderson Mina, who has gone to the Institution because his mother, Francis Alnizar, 70 years old, who has a disability, has not been paid this amount. Anderson is desperate because she is diabetic and that money is used to take care of Francis’ health.

The complaints are also transferred to social networks where users ask the institution why they have not paid these amounts regularly.

The SRI responded in a statement that the accreditation of the favorable amounts will be carried out according to the availability of funds from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Although they did not specify how many procedures are pending cancellation, they confirmed that they date back to mid-October. During the year 2023, 5.3 million procedures were registered in the Internal Revenue Service, which is equivalent to 1,099,000 people.

The amount of the VAT refund to this population was USD 133,294,000. The Ministry of Finance reported that the payment of the outstanding amount will be fulfilled as resources enter the fiscal fund, which is why there is no specific date.

According to that entity, from December 29, 2023 until February 20, USD 26.7 million were transferred to replenish these funds, but they did not indicate how many beneficiaries.

Those who are still waiting for their payment hope that this situation will be resolved soon.
