British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak used his address this evening to warn that democracy is under attack by extremists, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Sunak said there are “forces here at home that are trying to tear us apart.”
Speaking outside the doors of No. 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister’s official residence and office, Sunak warned of the current situation in Britain following the October 7 attacks by Hamas on Israel.
And it said George Galloway’s victory in the Rochdale by-election was “beyond worrying”.
“In recent weeks and months we have witnessed a shocking increase in extremist offenses and crime,” he said in a hastily arranged address to the nation.
“What started as protests in our streets has turned into intimidation, threats and planned acts of violence. Jewish children who are afraid to wear their school uniforms so as not to reveal their identity. Muslim women insulted in the street because of the actions of a terrorist group with which they have no connection.”
“Now our very democracy is being targeted. Council meetings and local events are being stormed. MPs do not feel safe in their homes.

In his victory speech, newly elected Rochdale MP George Galloway declared his victory “for Gaza” after a campaign dominated by the conflict.
