SYRIZA and KKE filed a request to reconvene the Commission of Inquiry in order to meet on the occasion of the dispatch by the Appellate Investigator of Larisa of a new case file on the Tempe accident. However, the request was not accepted by the ND.

The Bureau of the Commission refused to accede to the demands of the opposition parties, noting:

“Given that we have been informed that members of the examination committee have submitted requests to the Presidium of the examination committee (SYRIZA to extend the work of the examination, KKE for a new meeting) for your information, we inform you that the material in question has not been received by the Parliament and therefore the secretariat of the Examining Committee.

In any case, with absolute respect for the memory of the victims and the pain of their relatives, we must all rise to the occasion and operate absolutely institutionally with a view to uncovering the truth.

Therefore, it is self-evident that after receiving the information, the procedure that will be followed is the one that is routinely followed in case files of major interest, as has been done in the past.

After receiving the information, the members of the investigative committee will have access to the material transmitted by the Larissa Appeals Prosecutor’s Office, which is conducting the main investigation, in order to evaluate the information and decide whether and which part of it they will include in their report.

Earlier, SYRIZA MP Vassilis Kokkalis had requested the extension of the work, noting in his statement: “A while ago we as SYRIZA-PS requested the correlation of the case file that was sent from the previous week to the Appellate Investigator, the access, that is, of all of the members of the Commission of Inquiry in the case file of Tempe and the extension, at least for one week, of the submission of the findings for the Commission of Inquiry. The case file left Larissa on Friday.”

The KKE also submitted a request for the extraordinary convening of the Committee. “After the latest developments, i.e. the issuance of a decree by the Appeals Council of Larisa, on the basis of which the transmission of the case file to the Parliament and the sending of the case file was approved, we request the immediate meeting of the Investigative Committee”, stated Nikos Karathanasopoulos and Maria Komninaka .
