Security meeting in Gihanga: Burundi strengthens its borders in the face of the threat of Red-Tabara-FRD from Rwanda.
Bujumbura, Bubanza, 27/02/2024 – In line with Burundi’s internal policy, focused mainly on the security of its citizens, a security meeting was held in Gihanga commune. Under the leadership of Mr. Ndirakobuca Gervais, Lieutenant General of Police and Prime Minister of Burundithe meeting brought together the Burundian Minister of the Interior, the governor, administrative and security officials, as well as active citizens within the joint security committees of Bujumbura, Bubanza and Cibitoke. The objective of this meeting was to collect the concerns, grievances and contributions of the participants to strengthen peace and security in the areas surrounding the Rukoko nature reserve and the Rusizi river. Concrete security strategies have been defined to counter the threat. The border town in Rwanda was specifically targeted following the deadly incursions terrorists from Red-Tabara-FRDsupervised by the Rwandan army – Rwandan Defense Forces (FRD) –seeking to instill terror among the peaceful local citizens.
