The Salesians of Don Bosco in Ukraine do not abandon the people, report the Ybbstal Provincial Father Siegfried Kettner and the Amstettner Salesians of Don Bosco.

“We Salesians will never turn our backs on the people who suffer from this war,” promises Father Mykhaylo Chaban, Provincial of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Ukraine. After two years of war, 17.6 million people in Ukraine need urgent help to survive. The war has already left over 5.1 million internally displaced and more than six million refugees worldwide.

Don Bosco Mission Austria remains committed to the education of children who are cared for in the Don Bosco facilities in Lviv and Zhytomir. 300 children have the opportunity to continue going to school, but above all they need a safe space in which they learn, play and feel protected. The Amstettner Salesians Don Bosco and the top Salesian, Provincial Father Siegfried Kettner, who comes from Waidhofen/Ybbs, underline the importance of education in times of crisis: “Education is not only important in normal times, but in emergencies it is a life-saving tool for children.”

In addition to education, the Salesians continue to provide humanitarian assistance, including providing food, warm clothing and medicine to more than 1,000 refugees in Lviv. They are also present in other parts of the country, such as in Novohyhorivka, where they provide assistance to the civilian population. Brigitte Sonnberger explains: “Our goal is to bring aid as close as possible to the Russian border, where the need is greatest. Thanks to solidarity from all over the world, we can also help in these severely affected areas.”

The Amstettner Salesians of Don Bosco are asking for donations so that the Salesians can help people in Ukraine directly.
