Iris Apfel, designer, businesswoman and fashion and style icon, died at the age of 102 on Friday night (1st), at her home in Palm Beach, Florida. The information was confirmed by the celebrity’s official profile and the cause of death was not revealed.

Who was Iris Apfel?

Apfel was born into a Jewish family in New York in 1921. Initially, the young woman studied art history, but decided to specialize in interior design, especially textiles.

Her career in the fashion world began in 1951, when she and her husband opened a textile company called Old World Weavers, which supplied fabrics for nine presidents at the White House until mid-1992.

Known worldwide for her short white hair, huge glasses, vibrant lipstick and voluminous necklaces, in 2005, at the age of 84, Apfel received a tribute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which highlighted her clothes and jewelry in an exhibition, making her to a fashion icon.

Six years later, she launched her fashion line “Rara Avis” in partnership with the Home Shopping Network.

Since then, the documentary “Iris” premiered in 2014, she wrote an autobiography and, during the pandemic, a coloring book. At 97, the icon signed a modeling contract with IMG Models.
