For his part, Jonathan Vásquez, mayor of Barrancabermeja, requested assistance from the Department’s Government to provide an aircraft that can support fire control operations. Vásquez also highlighted the collaboration between different response agencies and the local community, underscoring the importance of a coordinated response in emergency situations.

In his words, “since yesterday, several fires have been reported in the rural sector of our municipality of Barrancabermeja. After several hours of great effort and work by the Fire Department, with the leadership of Captain Alexánder Díaz, and Civil Defense, many of them have been contained. However, there is still one that has not been able to be controlled, located in Campo Galán, in the El Llanito district. For this reason, we have requested help from the Government so that, through a helicopter, we can contain this fire and thus control it, saving the lives of many fauna in our district of Barrancabermeja”

In turn, the commander of the Barrancabermeja Fire Department pointed out the logistical challenges they face due to the topography of the affected area and the difficulty of accessing certain areas. Although the exact causes of the emergency have not yet been determined, authorities are focused on containing the situation and protecting both the inhabitants and the natural environment. Once the conflagration is controlled, the corresponding investigations will begin to determine the circumstances that led to its start.
