New Delhi: ICC has nominated three players for the February 2024 Player of the Month Award. The names of India’s in-form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka are included in this list. Jaiswal has performed well so far in the Test series against England and has been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month Award for the first time.
India had a bad start after losing the Hyderabad Test by 28 runs, but India made a comeback thanks to Jaiswal’s excellent form. Yashasvi scored back-to-back double centuries in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot. He also equaled the record of most sixes in a Test innings with 12 sixes. 22-year-old Jaiswal scored a total of 560 runs at an average of 112 at the end of February.
Back-to-back double centuries at the age of 22 years and 49 days also made him the third youngest batsman in the world to score two double centuries in Tests, after Sir Donald Bradman and Vinod Kambli. Jaiswal has also reached the top of the leading run-scorer list in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. Williamson, on the other hand, has been nominated for the award for the first time since March 2023, when he headlined another series of centuries in New Zealand’s first Test series win over South Africa.
During February, Williamson scored 403 runs in two Test matches. He also received the Player of the Series award. Meanwhile, Nissanka has performed brilliantly in Sri Lanka’s recent three ODIs and three T20Is against Afghanistan. UAE duo of Kavisha Agodej and Isha Ojha have been shortlisted along with Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for February 2024.
