“Tomorrow is a sports festival. I congratulate the entire sports community on this event. Like every year, this year we announced a sports week.”

As reported by İdman.biz, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gaibov stated this in his address to journalists.

The minister, who took part in the award ceremony for the winners of the Khankendi-Baku ultramarathon, which was held for the first time, expressed his opinion about the competition:

“This sports week we have more events than in the whole year. We want to attract the public more to sports. For the first time such an idea arose and an ultramarathon was held. Our country is already sovereign, we can hold events in Karabakh and Khankendi. In Khankendi with the participation the head of the country hosted the national football cup game.”

The Minister congratulated the athletes who covered a distance of 380 km:

“We started from Khankendi, and the participants covered the distance by running towards the capital. We gave the townspeople a chance so that they could be supported. In total there were more than 60 athletes. Athletes not only from Azerbaijan, but also Mexico and brotherly Turkey took part. Of course, not everyone managed to reach the end. Today at the finish line we were waiting for 16 people. This is a very difficult ultramarathon. In five days they covered 380 km. Congratulations and thanks to every participant.”

It should be noted that the Khankendi-Baku marathon, which started on February 29 with the participation of 64 athletes, consisted of 5 stages.
