Moscow: Amidst the increasing tension between Russia and the West for some time, Russian President Vladimir Putin may conduct a nuclear test. British newspaper The Sun has expressed this apprehension in one of its reports. Reports say Putin is preparing to conduct a major nuclear test in the pristine Arctic. It has been claimed that the nuclear explosion will be carried out at the same place where the world’s most powerful bomb was detonated in 1961. Russia tested a bomb with 3,300 times more energy than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima 60 years ago. Putin will now conduct another full nuclear blast test at the same location on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.
Political analyst Dmitry Bolkunets has said that a nuclear bomb explosion test will be conducted on the island of Novaya Zemlya in the near future. These tests can take place underground. Putin has already announced Russia’s withdrawal from the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. He has also asked his Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to resume Perm missile testing. In August last year, Shoigu was sent to Novaya Zemlya for inspection.

According to the Sun report, Vladimir Putin’s close aides have told him that the test could intimidate the West over its support for Ukraine. Putin’s ally and head of the Kurchatov Nuclear Institute, Mikhail Kovalchuk, has also said that this could be a good idea. Let us tell you that Russia has a large stockpile of nuclear weapons.
