Minister of Internal Security Amar Bar-Lev, following publications about the use of law and justice enforcement systems in technologies, “I decided to set up a government commission of inquiry that will investigate in depth the violation of civil rights and their privacy in the years in question.”
The Minister added, “From the evidence that emerges, it appears that the failures, if any, were under previous commissioners, under previous Homeland Security ministers and under previous governments. “My failures will not happen – the police are under my responsibility and my authority and I will make sure that if there was a violation of democracy that happened in previous years, I will denounce it and not let it happen.”
Minister Bar-Lev concluded, “The government review committee I am setting up on the issue of the use of surveillance technologies by all bodies in the law enforcement system will be headed by a retired judge. “Summoning witnesses, interrogating them with a warning and seizing documents. Whatever the level of seniority of the cash in those days, be it from the political echelon, the judicial system, or the Israel Police.”
