SC Vila Real drew 0-0 against Marítimo “B”, in a game counting for the 22nd round of Series A of the Portuguese Championship. A game with a final shape and where no one was happy with the division of points, but with Vila Real being penalized, as they missed a penalty during added time.
The game had little “spice”, practically no great scoring opportunities.
The Madeiran team “complicated” the task for the Black and Whites by bringing in some players from team A, who usually compete in professional championships.
Throughout the first half there were no attempts at goal from either team.
The complementary stage brought a more daring “Bila”, with more game volume, closer to the large area of the island formation.
However, as the game progressed it was realized that whoever scored would win the match, the knot was very difficult to untie.
But it was in the last 10 minutes that we saw the biggest moments of the game. Stanley Kanu accelerates and receives a deep ball and is inside the area completely isolated with goalkeeper Madureira, but shoots wide, an incredible failure.
In stoppage time, and after a corner kick in favor of Nuno Barbosa’s men, Musa takes a “hangover” shot from outside the area and Guerrero touches the ball with his arm, with the referee pointing to the maximum punishment mark. Nicolatti took the penalty, but allowed goalkeeper Pedro Teixeira to save. There was no more playing, the game ended right there.
“Bila” had the “bird in the hand”, but let it get away, against a direct rival in the fight for maintenance. With four rounds to go before the end of the competition, SC Vila Real is above the water line, 3 points away from the relegation zone.
In the next round, another decisive game for the black and white team, with a trip to Portosantense, the red bottom of the competition.
During halftime of the match, SC Vila Real and CS Marítimo “B” paid tribute to Rui Vieira, a former player from both clubs, from Vila Real.
Rui Vieira trained at SC Vila Real, represented the black and white team in the 1978/79 to 1982/83 seasons, and then joined AD Guarda, Vitória Sport Clube (4 seasons) and CS Marítimo (6 seasons).
