A Cuban citizen residing in Miami is being accused of having committed vehicular homicide about seven months ago.

According to information from the local press, the man responds to the name of Carlos Oropesa, 60 years old, who recently appeared in court for the crime for which he is now accused.

Law enforcement accuses him, specifically, of driving “with deliberate or wanton disregard for the safety of people by failing to pay attention to an approaching danger.”

It turned out that the incident in question occurred in July of last year at the intersection of Southwest Eighth Street and 142nd Avenue, when the Cuban, with his vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe, changed lanes and caused a fatal accident in which one person died. .

The victim was in the hospital for a day, but unfortunately he could not bear his injuries and lost his life.

Police allege that Oropesa was driving faster than the posted speed in that area.

“Investigators met with Oropesa on July 31, who told them that he was driving the Chevrolet Tahoe, behind the driver of a red Jeep, who was weaving in and out of lanes in front of him, so he changed lanes to avoid colliding with “the Jeep”says the Local 10 report.

Investigations showed that the Cuban’s vehicle was traveling at 66 miles per hour, about 2.5 seconds before the accident, in an area where the maximum speed allowed was 45 miles per hour.

In this sense, in recent days, Miami detectives asked the accused to meet with them for a new interrogation, which, once completed, led to his arrest.

So far, the investigations are continuing, and Oropesa will have to remain in the custody of the authorities until they make a determination.
