Dhananjay was facing trial in the MP MLA court in a case of kidnapping and extortion. He has been declared guilty in the case. Former MP and JDU national general secretary Dhananjay Singh has been convicted by the MP-MLA court of Jaunpur in the case of extortion and kidnapping from the engineer of Namami Gange. According to the information, Abhinav Singhal, project manager of Namami Gange, resident of Muzaffarnagar, had lodged an FIR against Dhananjay and his partner Vikram under kidnapping, extortion and other sections at Line Bazar police station on 10 May 2020.
It was complained that Santosh Vikram along with two associates kidnapped Singhal and took him to the residence of former MP Dhananjay Singh. There Dhananjay Singh came with a pistol and abused Abhinav Singhal and pressured him to supply low quality material. When they refused, they threatened them and demanded extortion money. Singhal had lodged an FIR in this matter, after which the former MP was arrested. He later got bail.
