About 300 athletes are taking part in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Baku.

As Day.Az reported on Thursday with reference to Trend, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) Nurlana Mammadzade told reporters.

“The stages of this year’s World Cup are of particular importance for athletes, as they are of a qualifying nature for the 2024 Olympic Games. Azerbaijani gymnast Nikita Simonov takes part in these competitions. At the World Cup in Cottbus (Germany), which took place earlier, Nikita Simonov took first place in the rings exercise. We hope that he will repeat his successful performance in Baku,” she emphasized.

Nurlana Mammadzade mentioned that, along with Nikita Simonov, Ivan Tikhonov and young Azerbaijani athletes also take part in the men’s artistic gymnastics competitions.

“Our country is represented in women’s artistic gymnastics competitions by Nazanin Teymurova, who has been competing in the adult age category since last year. We hope that she will delight the audience with her performance at the World Cup,” she added.

It should be noted that the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup is taking place at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku (March 7-10). Representatives from 67 countries take part in the competition.

Azerbaijan is represented at the men’s artistic gymnastics competition by Nikita Simonov, Ivan Tikhonov, Rasul Ahmedzade, Mansum Safarov, Murad Agarzayev, and in the women’s artistic gymnastics competition by Nazanin Teymurova.
