Contradicting once again the evil tongues which say he is weakened, President Paul Biya made an unexpected appearance on Saturday at the Oback Eye Hospital near Yaoundé, accompanied by his wife Chantal Biya. A remarkable quick visit which allowed the presidential couple to appreciate the progress of this model ophthalmological center in Central Africa.

The head of state on an unannounced visit

The Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute (MICEI) teams were surprised to welcome a most unexpected double presidential visit at the end of the day on March 2. Indeed, it was accompanied by his wife that Paul Biya took advantage of a Saturday afternoon to go, without formal ceremony, to the Oback Eye Hospital, better known as “ mica« .

An unannounced visit which confirms, if it were still necessary, the Olympic form and the busy agenda of the Cameroonian president at the age of 90. In recent weeks, the wildest rumors have once again circulated about his state of health, with some sources mentioning a “media disappearance” which said a lot about his weakening. Clear misinformation given this surprise and energetic trip across the country!

A hospital gem near Yaoundé

On site, Paul and Chantal Biya were able to measure the progress made by this exceptional hospital, specialized in the treatment of eye pathologies and created in 2016 thanks to Egyptian investors. In just a few years, MICEI has acquired a reputation as a regional center of excellence, thanks to cutting-edge equipment and a high-level medical facility.

So much so that many personalities from Central Africa, but also athletes or artists, no longer hesitate to make the trip to benefit from its benchmark ophthalmological care. A sign of its strong development, MICEI even aims to soon open a second ultra-modern hospital site in Douala.

This shows that in terms of health, Cameroon has nothing to be ashamed of in the face of international powers, as Paul and Chantal Biya have noted. To the delight of the population, who now no longer need to cross borders to have the best medical infrastructure!
