New Delhi: Doubts have been raised over the bowling action of Quetta Gladiators spin bowler Usman Tariq in the Pakistan Super League 2024. The umpires have reported his action. However, he has not been banned yet and can continue bowling until he undergoes a bowling action test at a facility approved by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). If he reports again during the league before the Test, he will not be allowed to bowl. However, after the action ban, he can play the match but will not be able to bowl.
Tariq’s brilliant performance in the league
In his first PSL match, Tariq bowled four overs and conceded 27 runs without taking any wicket. In the second match, he took two wickets and conceded only 16 runs in four overs. Although he bowled economically in the third match, conceding only 23 runs in 3.3 overs, Quetta Gladiators lost that match. Tariq’s bowling action has been discussed since the beginning. He runs slowly before releasing the ball.
Played only one match before PSL
After the match, the umpires reported Tariq for suspicious action. The PCB issued a statement confirming that Tariq was reported during the match between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings on 6 March. The team management of Quetta Gladiators has requested the PCB to allow Tariq to undergo a bowling action test at a PCB approved facility. Before the PSL, Tariq had played only one professional match.
